Product description
The NCS Gloss Scale is a gloss reference from NCS Colour. It lets you see seven gloss levels side by side, from fully matt to high gloss, in four colours from the grey scale: S 0500-N (white), S 2500-N (light grey), S 5000-N (mid grey) and S 9000-N (black). The samples are arranged in visually equal gloss steps.
The seven gloss levels
According to NCS, the gloss was measured in accordance with ISO 2813 at 60°:
- fully matt: 2
- matt: 6
- semi-matt: 12
- silk: 30
- semi-gloss: 50
- gloss: 75
- high gloss: 95
Why a gloss scale?
Gloss changes how a colour looks: with more gloss, a colour can appear darker and more chromatic. By combining the four grey-scale colours with the seven gloss levels, you see how lightness and gloss together determine the appearance of a colour.
